A key “ingredient” to enjoying your vacation is the ambiance of where you’re staying. Few places in the country create a fusion of wonder and relaxation as that of Ouray, Colorado. Combined with the Alpenglow experience, it’s practically paradise. For those of you looking to enjoy the scenery, there are lots of places nearby to consider.
If you’d rather stay close to Alpenglow, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Ouray’s Main Street. Built between the late 1800s and early 1900s, the area is considered a National Historic District and is a testament to Ouray’s past as a gold and silver mining boomtown. A number of the existing structures still have details that depict Ouray’s history and there are plenty of notable buildings to check out like The Beaumont Hotel and Ouray County Courthouse.
Over in Ridgway State Park, the five-mile wide-reservoir is a sight to behold. It’s only fifteen miles from Ouray and the visit is definitely worth it. Take a boat out on the reservoir, relax on the beach, check out one of the scenic trails, there is no shortage of activities to partake in. Don’t forget to stop by Pa-Co-Chu-Puk Campground for wonderfully serene vistas of the river.
