Ouray’s Incredible Waterfalls

Sep 13, 2018 | News, Ouray Colorado Condos, Ouray Vacation Rentals

The common adage “a picture says a thousand words” applies quite appropriately to nature. Waterfalls, in particular, evoke plenty of emotions and are so picturesque that they’re among the most common sights in nature photography. Ouray is full of scenic sights and sure enough, there are beautiful waterfalls to explore and admire. Let’s take a closer at two of them.

During your Alpenglow stay, Box Canyon Falls is definitely a must visit. You may have to pay a small fee to visit it during these last days of summer, but the experience is worth the price of admission. This majestic waterfall is known for melting the snow that accumulates on Yankee Boy and Imogene’s wildflower basins before flowing into the Canyon Creek and eventually becoming a part of the Uncompaghre River. You may also catch a glimpse of the waterfall if you’re exploring one of the hiking trails or going off-roading.

Bear Creek Falls is just outside of Ouray near the frequently traveled Million Dollar Highway. There is a stand you can use to admire the water as it falls down hundreds of feet below and it’s not unusual for rainbows to form in the mist created by the falls. As a National Recreation Trail, it’s among the most scenic trails you’ll ever experience. However, if you’re squeamish when it comes to heights, you may want to think twice before heading off on this trail.
