Since December, the popular Ouray Ice Park has been welcoming recreational climbers, with mask-wearing and social distancing requirements in place. Its opening usually marks the arrival of the Ouray Ice Fest.
Ouray Ice Fest has been a highly frequented event for anything and everything ice climbing culture related, with everyone from novice ice climbers to seasoned from various parts of the world making trips to Ouray. Along with climbing tournaments, clinics, interactive presentations, auctions and late-night celebrations, a host of activities has been included in years past.
The 2021 Ouray Ice Fest is changing things up a bit due to obvious reasons but it is still looking to maintain the spirit with some exciting events, namely the mixed climbing competition. Some major changes are taking place this year, including allowing participants to apply for the first time after being invitation-only in the past. Furthermore, the competition will now have two days of preliminary rounds for the first time, a tweak that can help make the competition more open to potential competitors.
Other aspects of the Ouray Ice Fest are also going online, such as the popular auction. The number of clinics has also been increased to allow fewer participants to attend.
