As Ouray continues to adapt, some recent changes approved by the Ouray City Council are going to take the country’s “Switzerland of America” into something resembling a Europe-like experience, at least temporarily.
After holding a meeting earlier this month, Ouray’s business district is going to look a lot livelier. A recent ordinance has paved the way for numerous coffee shops, restaurants, and more to allow al fresco dining. These establishments will be allowed to set up a limited number of sidewalk dining tables in specific “Temporary Outside Areas” as the lucrative summer season approaches.
For those concerned about social distancing or too many people gathering or being in close proximity, tables are required to be far enough to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Speaking of which, many restaurants have also reopened albeit with certain policies in place, such as limiting capacity to fifty percent.
At least for now, bars will remain closed. Next month, the city will also take a look at establishments that are not serving food.
