Nature lovers have come to appreciate the natural landscapes of Ouray, Colorado. The rich wildlife is also worth mentioning and today we’d like to tell you more about the amusingly named juniper titmouse, a passerine bird type that is usually gray with a feathery tuft on its head. While the color doesn’t make it the most noticeable bird, the juniper titmouse has lots of sass.
Known for being quite chirpy, the juniper titmouse is vocal at all times of the year and it is something of an acrobat, often seen dangling upside down from branches. As opposed to most birds that try and get away from the winter season, the juniper will gather suet and sunflower seeds and store them to consume during the colder season. The birds are fond of nest boxes, which means you can add one to your yard which the juniper will call home, as long as a predator guard is attached.
When it comes to nests, a female, incubating juniper titmouse becomes extremely protective. She will do her best not to leave the nest and, in keeping with the bird’s reputation for being saucy, will make a hissing sound like that of a snake if someone or something tries to disturb her nest.
